Montenegro, one of the 6 republics that were part of Yugoslavia, was still together with Serbia as Yugoslavia even after other countries separated, after these two countries were together as Serbia and Montenegro until 2006, when a referendum was held and Montenegro got its independence with 55%. The Republic of Montenegro is defined as a democratic, prosperous and ecological country. In the east are Albania and Kosovo, Serbia in the north, Croatia in the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Adriatic Sea in the south.In addition to many historical sites, the old city of Kotor, the Durmitor and Tara River Canyon of Montenegro are protected by UNESCO.
